Responsible Parents or Guardians please read on.......
It can be a very stressful occasion for the parent or guardian of a teenager who is embarking on driving tuition, especially with the increase of serious injury and fatalaties amongst younger drivers. It's fair to say that most young pupils behave responsibly during lessons with an Instructor at their side, however, when the pupil has passed the Practical Driving Test then they are solely responsible for their own actions.
At STREETCLASS we encourage parents and guardians to be involved from the start, especially if you will be assisting with private practice in your own vehicle without dual controls. Of course we also understand that private practice does not always work when tempers get frayed and frustration sets in!
Some Tips to Help
-
Make a point of meeting your driving instructor - put your mind at rest !
-
Ask to be informed when the pupil is safe to drive without dual controls.
-
Try to be constructive not destructive - remember when you learned to drive?
-
Ask your STREETCLASS Instructor for a refresher lesson and get to understand what the latest standards demand.
-
If your pupil is extremely nervous, then please mention this to the Instructor, all pupils are treated with respect and understanding.
-
Try to avoid giving conflicting information, seek clarification from the Instructor!
-
Ask what aspects of the pupil's driving can be strengthened during private practice with the involvement of the pupil and Instructor
-
Remember that most life skills are learnt by repetition and practice makes perfect!
-
Everybody thrives on praise - be liberal with it!
-
A more experienced driver generally develops in to a safer driver, so encourage additional training when the Practical Driving Test has been passed, i.e. a PASSPLUS Course.
